Believing in the power of thought.

This post is not what it was meant to be. The title is correct and I spent a lot of time writing my thoughts on the power of positive thinking. In fact I wrote a whole lot of words and then I added an awesome image with a positive saying on it at the bottom and as I went to add a caption, I inadvertently deleted the whole post and then Blogger did an automatic save and I lost everything.

I've now spent several minutes staring at the screen in absolute disbelief and the reality is that no amount of positive thinking is going to bring my 'wonderful post' back. I have to laugh or otherwise I'll cry.

I'm not going to write all the words again, besides the fact that I can't remember half of what I'd written. I am going to re-write the essence of what I was trying to say and here's positive thinking for you - maybe this post is going to be better than the last. The thing is I do believe in the power of our thoughts, that what we think is what we attract be it good or bad. Not sure how my thoughts led to deleting my post but anyway....

There are people who will passionately agree with the theory that what we think we attract or there are others who will vigorously argue the fact. My hubby is one who will vigorously argue about it because he's a black and white man - unless he can see it, feel it or hear it he won't believe it.

I've had too many occurrences in my life where what I've truly believed in and / or pursued has eventuated. That's not to say that my thoughts are always happy, shiny positive ones either. Sometimes life is bloody hard and I have times that I feel like everyone and everything is against me. Good or bad though - I believe we attract what we think

Several months ago I was going through some really difficult times with my two eldest boys. I wasn't sleeping well, I wasn't eating properly and I was making myself unwell through the stress of it all. It was only when I started suffering from migraines on a weekly basis that I realised I wasn't following my own beliefs, I was letting my fears get in the way of my positive thinking.

So I did an about face and started going to bed with my mental tape re-programmed in my head to remind me that 'everything will work out the way it's meant to and I trust in the universe to provide all that I need'. This was my sleeping thought for several weeks and I don't know why I was suddenly able to discard the worry and negatives thoughts but I did and I truly believed in my mental tape.

This post was the result of my positive thinking

The thing is, it doesn't matter whether any of you believe in this concept, the important thing is that I believed it. Trust me when I say that I live with the biggest disbeliever on the subject of positive thinking and the power of the mind - but that's okay too because I have enough belief for the two of us and I wouldn't change his beliefs because then he wouldn't be him.

and while I'm on a roll, tomorrow I'll share another story about the power of my positive thinking

So the question is - do you believe that what we think, we attract?

Cheers, Fi

Affirm the positive, visualize the positive and expect the positive, and your life will change accordingly.
When you have control over your thoughts, you have control over your life.
You can close the windows and darken your room, and you can open the windows and let light in. It is a matter of choice. Your mind is your room. Do you darken it or do you fill it with light?

  1. Ugh~sorry for the loss of your first blog post! Yes Fi, I do believe in how we attract ... though far from perfect, I do need to remind myself.

You asked me a question when you visited my blog and I will answer after I ask this ~ You said, "I don't know why I was suddenly able to discard the worry and negatives thoughts but I did and I truly believed in my mental tape" I believe that you were able to discard the worry & negatives because you taught yourself to will the pain away. Do you question your own beliefs?

Ok, Goose was named by the parents (our daughters fiances parents) of the two furbabies who had the pups. They named most of them after alochol such as Grey Goose ... the name stuck! I call him Goosebumps and Galoot. They have two other dogs, one named Cricket, the other is Kisses. Go figure, but it works.

Thank you so much for visiting me today ... I so love reading comments and getting to know others.

  3. Oh, I know the frustration of losing the most brilliant post ever... I've done it many times.

I DO believe that positive thoughts make a big difference. When people say that the only things we can control are our reactions/thoughts, I try to follow-up with remembering what a great thing that is! Because if we control those thoughts, we control so much more!

Anyways, that was a lengthy response but your post made me smile. Thank you for the 6WS reminder!

  4. Great post despite the fact it wasn't your original one. This one spoke to me and you'll see why if/when you read my 6WS. Man, it has been a week. I am going to adjust my attitude and put on my positive thinking cap for this next week. Hopefully, it will be much better. Have a great week/end.

  5. Like you, Fi, I believe my thoughts have power -- my thoughts create my experiences -- if I wake up feeling down and grumpy -- my day tends to unfold in not so happy ways!

Trusting in the universe is vital.

Sorry about the lost post -- been there! This one was great!

  6. Hi Fi...Sorry you lost your first post. That is frustrating. But I think it happens to all of us at times! (:>)

I agree that we should focus on the positive things and not on the negative things in life.

I love the verse in the Bible that tells us:
Whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, virtuous, and trustworthy, and of a good report...think on these things!

You are right...we should think positive thoughts!

    Thanks,

    Happy Saturday!

  9. I think you are right. Thinking positively can make everything start to seem better after a while. I obviously don't know what your first post said, but I really enjoyed this one.

  10. I hate it when that happens! I save after every paragraph now, so I have at least something. Can you do that with blogger?

  12. Fi I have had that happen myself. I sit there and then Im just transfixed on the computer wondering what just happened.
That you where albe to capture as much as you did is awesome!
Yes I think we all need to be more positive. So on your question I do believe here is some truth to it. Not sure that it is always the case but i thin that we can surely help by being positive and having faith and beleiivng all things work out for the good. Look at your wonderful rewrite perfect example.
    Blessings

  13. since you are privy to a few details of my life, i would venture to say that i HOPE i didn't attract what happened to me in my youth... but i made the best of it. it seems that bad things happen and i have to reach a certain level before i start acting/reacting, but i hope it will be positive in the end.

and should i mention, i'm an anxious optimist... anxious being the keyword here!!

  14. I do believe the mind is a powerful thing. Thanks for the reminder. I really need to use it now.

    Where is that post? ;-)

  15. "As ye sow, so shall ye reap". Every thought of despair, hopelessness, anger, anxiety, fear will find itself in the nature of our experience. Every thought of hope, peace, confidence, joy will influence the nature of our daily outcome.

I cannot be sure that the kid who was born in the gutter of Calcutta attracted this to himself, nor if I've attracted all the pain and turmoil I had to go through in my childhood, but what I know now, is that I am responsible of the kinds of thoughts I feed my mind right now.

We've all been so much programmed to expect the worst in life. We always say that "something is to good to be true" but we rarely say "something is to bad to be true". We love and worship tragedies, we only talk about it, we watch it on tv, read it in the papers and so forth... thus perpetuating the vicious cycle of tragedies.

I cannot put a cake in the oven and take out a pie 30 minutes later. I always end up getting what I prepared myself for. They say that to have peace you must prepare for war. I say If we prepare for war, war is what we are going to get.

Most of us expect the worst in life and we are afraid to expect the best because our experience doesn't validate that. But this thing about "positive thinking" is not just a remedy for when things go bad. It's a way of living that should be applied every second of our life.

It's all about practice, practice and practice. You can't play a Beethoven sonata after only three or four piano lessons. It takes many years of practice to master any craft. So is positive thinking. If I quit after two or three weeks saying it doesn't work, it's no better than someone who quits his piano lessons because he cannot play like a pro after a couple of weeks.

OK. I'm gonna shut up now.

Thanks for an very interesting post.

btw. I'm not a positive thinking pro myself... I still need a lot of practice!
    :)

  16. I do believe in the power of positive thinking. However, I also believe in the power of the thinking of others, meaning other forces are sometimes at work in our life.
