Setting the wheels in motion

Sometimes, just taking action, any action is enough to make you feel better. Getting out there and making things happening, making a stand - is so much better than sitting back and letting it all happen around you or letting it annoy the crap out of you.

I set the wheels in motion the other day, took my first baby steps. It scared the bejeezus out of me to step out of my comfort zone - but I did it. Alas, no telling you more until I have something more to tell.

People like me annoy me. I'm not being deliberately mysterious - there are reasons which will become clearer eventually.

Let's just say that I'm finalising my fve year plan, I think I finally have a handle on what I want, when I want it by and know most of the baby steps I need to accomplish it. Everything I'm doing is in line with the baby steps I need to take.

The hardest part - believing in myself and my abilities and then actually following through and doing something about it. Trying can sometimes mean the tiniest action. It can also be the scariest action, but you have to start somewhere. Start small. Physically actionable steps. Do-able realistic baby steps today. Right now. .
  • What small steps have you taken in the last few months / weeks? (Big or small, because the “small” stuff sometimes is more important than our biggest achievements!)
  • What is the biggest thing on your list (only in terms of importance) that you are working towards?
  • What motivates you the most?
Cheers, Fi

  1. Good for you! I can't wait to hear more as your plan unfolds.

Right now my biggest focus and goal is getting my classroom set up and ready for my students to start on July 30. Last weekend we set up the furniture and got a start on the decorating. This week I've been working on sending postcards to welcome the children and emails to the parents.

    1. I find that amazing - our teachers don't do any of that

    2. Fiona, are you teacher's rooms set up and decorated for them? Or were you referring to the emails and postcards? The communication before school starts is not common here, but I think it's a nice touch so I wanted to try it. I've already heard from three parents, which is a great way to start a relationship before I've ever even seen my students!

    3. They decorate them during the course of the year with students work so they start off very bland. No personal communication prior to classes commencing. I like that touch, it gives parents a level of comfort that their child will be treated as a person and not just another face in the classroom - well done to you for caring enough to make the effort

    4. My room is decorated pretty plainly so I can hang student work, too, but there are certain things required like the rules and consequences, and the Pledge of Allegiance. I'll be posting pictures on my blog soon.

Thanks for the encouragement about caring. I was hoping to hit that mark of making each child feel special before school even began. I'm glad to see that it will be seen that way!

  2. Of course I am going to be one of your biggest cheerleaders...Rah! Rah! Rah! I can't wait to hear about the baby steps. Of course one of my short term goals is to head back to Ethiopia (in Feb)...everything is going in slow motion but crossing fingers it all comes together again. What motivates me the most....People. People like you, people like me, people that need help NOW. People. Wanting to make a difference in others lives one way or another, very motivating. And then when you see the results, even more motivation to keep it up. As I have said before and will say again...YOU CAN DO IT! Keep believing in yourself there is NO reason not to.

    1. People motivate me, too. I am so glad there are others who are driven by people in need. If we each did just one good deed a week to help someone else, imagine what our world would look like!
