Taking my medicine - laughter's the cure

I've been sick for two weeks now with the flu and bronchitis - worse than I've ever been sick in my life. I'm sitting here on the lounge tonight watching 'Funniest Home Videos' and I'm laughing my head off, taking the best possible medicine in the world. It's also the first time I've felt like laughing in days. The research shows:
  • Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
  • Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
  • Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
  • Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
Here's something I found that you've gotta laugh at. There's something about a laughing baby that cracks me up - but 10 different laughing babies, absolutely gold. Hope this gives you something to giggle about.

Have a great weekend everyone

Cheers, Fi

  2. So do I. Hope your recovery is by now complete. I can't watch your laughing babies - Jock is asleep in front of the TV, and he would not be laughing if I woke him up with giggles!

  4. Fi,
I do hope you are feeling better and I do agree with you about laughter. Unfortunately we tend to forget that when we get caught up in the business of living!
    Have a great week!

  11. We have a retro TV channel here that plays an old comedy show on Sunday nights. I'm going to have to make sure to watch that tonight. I could use some of the benefits of laughter. I hope you are feeling back to yourself very soon!
