6WS - We all need something to anticipate

We need something to look forward to, something to work towards, something to hope for. The last few months I've been a little disheartened, a little bit bored, a little painful to be around.

I'd let myself get to a stage where I wasn't working towards anything, I had no goals in place, nothing to anticipate. I wasn't actively achieving anything (other than getting out of bed and going to work and then repeating it the next day) I think this is also commonly called getting stuck in a rut.

Work was driving me crazy, same old, same old and I didn't feel like I was accomplishing anything, I didn't feel useful. The only writing I was doing was in my personal journal and I was moaning about everything.

I haven't been blogging much (I didn't want to bore people with my moaning) and I wasn't writing as much as I normally do. Strangely enough you can't become a writer who makes a decent income or any income for that matter if you don't write.

So I set some plans in place, I wrote two new e-books, I upgraded and re-created my personal website and started planning my life instead of letting it flatten me. I took a week off work to finalise my website (www.fionabiedermann.com) and I wrote and I just let myself 'be'.

I feel lighter, I feel happier and I feel anticipation for all the great things still to come. I understand better than ever now just how important it is for me to write, to create and to have goals to work towards.

Yes, it's been a while since I showed my face at 6WS, but this is where I started and this is where I've come back to. Ironic huh?

So what do you have to anticipate and look forward to?

Cheers, Fi

I'm linking up with Cate who gives us all a place to visit and connect. Want to play along with Six Word Saturday, its easy? All that's necessary to participate is to describe your life (or something) in a phrase using just six words. For more information, try clicking here. Feel free to explain or not explain. Add an image, a video, a song, or nothing.

  1. Hi Fiona! It's great to see you here! I so agree with you, that if we have nothing to look forward to and no goals we are working toward, the rut becomes deep and sticky very quickly. We've found that even a planned weekend getaway can keep me going all month in anticipation of doing something different. Goals, ahh yes, I have some... vaguely defined, I need to get to work on that. Good for you for getting organized and ready to move on. Love that picture quote at the end too! :-)

    1. I agree with the planned weekend away, I think sometimes we forget the simple things can make the world of difference

  2. Yes, I agree that we all need something to look forward to. I'm looking forward to Mother's Day with my family and, in the near future (I hope!), I'm looking forward to having some work included in an anthology. Then there's my annual visit with my family, events at my son's school, a mother-daughter day at the children's museum... So many things to anticipate!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. ☺

  3. Glad you are back! I can relate to most of what you were going through. I need to figure out what I want and work toward it rather than just make it through the day to day. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Good for you! Anticipation is the best! I am looking forward to 2 new great nephews being born this summer so they can play with my new grandson. I also have 2 more cruises this year and hubby is in the middle of researching our side trips.

  5. Its funny you should say that you hadn't been doing much writing except in your journal. Sometimes I am the opposite. I write posts for my blog but do not free-write for myself. Both are important. :-)

  6. There we go...now I can comment. Your Happiness quote, I posted this same quote early this morning on my Facebook page. How weird is that?

    1. Yeah the comment thing - not sure what was going on there. Why am I not surprised about the happiness quote. That's actually quite funny because I originally had another one picked out and then came across that saved on my computer and knew I hadn't used it yet - you and I Jen, soul sisters on opposite sides of the world :-)

  7. Hi Fiona ~~ It's been a while since we excanged 6WS. Thank you for peeking in on mine, and I'm so late in returing. Just a terribly busy (and fun) day yesterday.

Yes, we all need goals, I know. I am not sure I have many though, I am retired and live mostly day by day. Probably my goals are mostly long range, big picture ones.

I do like this blog look. I cannot remember your earlier ones. This one is similar to the modified one I use, wide information pages and a sidebar on the left. If I knew it's template, I might try to update mine to the new blogger with it. Might. ;)
