Communicating well - it should be a law!

Have you ever thought about how important communication is? Great loves end when communication falls apart, wars start when communication breaks down, opportunities are lost when communication fails.

The thing is, while communication is not always the cause of the problems, it can definitely be the saviour when used effectively or can totally destroy something when not done right.

I work in the field of communication, yet creating the messages is the easy part. People with egos and emotions and conflicting interests are what cause communication to go haywire. Some days I would prefer to work in a childcare centre, children are so much easier to reason with.

People who are paid to communicate effectively as part of their job and get it so wrong - there's no excuse. Today I witnessed not just a little blip on the bad scale but right off the scale of bad. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I'm quite passionate about communication.

That's not to say that some days I don't get it wrong in my relationships or that my boss doesn't want to strangle me for having such strong opinions and being so vocal about them.

The reality is though that any situation can be improved through open, honest and considered communication if you work at it. Maybe not fixed, but at least improved.

If you've stuffed up, then admit it and work at fixing it. If you're out of your depth in a situation then don't make it worse by lying or trying to impress people. If you have no idea how to fix a problem then seek help from someone who does.

Have you got an example of communication gone bad that you'd like to share in the comments section?

I hope you're communicating like a star and all is right in your world. If you missed my news on Wednesday - my website went live this week, I've done a bit of tweaking (thank you to those who provided feedback)

Although, who knows why anyone would want to follow me and want follow buttons ~ grin ~ and why would you want to view the whole screen on an ipad. Seriously though I do appreciate all your words of advice and hopefully all fixed.
