My baby bought a motorbike...

The sight of it makes me want to be physically ill, it's big and black and fast - okay so it's a motorbike people (that's for those of you who didn't read the title of this post)

My husband tortured me by making me sit in the car with him and follow behind our youngest son as he ventured onto the road for the first time today.

I tried to refuse (you know bury my head in the sand kind of stuff) hubby wouldn't let me. My heart only temporarily stopped twice on the trip.

Having watched him ride, I do feel reassured that he knows what he's doing and that he seemed to handle it okay. It looked huge sitting in the shed and he is my baby after all. He paid for it himself, out of money he's diligently saved. It still doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

My sons ability on a bike does not concern me in the least, it's all the other morons on the road who bother me. My baby is 16 and by law he's not allowed to drive a car without a licensed driver in the passenger seat with him for the next 9 months. A motorbike is a different story though, he can attend a weekend course and get on a bike all on his own and hit the road alone today.

As a mother this doesn't make any sense to me at all.

He's smart, he's very mature for his age and he's not a risk taker..... but arrgghh!. Of course I'm outnumbered in the testosterone stakes as well, stepson has ridden a bike since he was 16, hubby had one at that age as well. I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue if I had daughters. Then again, they might just be getting on the back of a bike instead.

Moving on.... because I have nothing more to say on the subject.

My last words for today will mean something to anyone who knows me well and knows just how long I've been harbouring a dream - today I finally booked our flights to Phuket....don't mind me I'm doing my little party dance as I write those words.

Further to that, anyone who knows my husband well will also do well not to comment that you read about it on my blog or on Facebook either. Let him tell you about himself. He's definitely not a fan of social media my man.

Hope you've all had a sensational weekend people and wherever you are, and wherever you're driving - watch out for the motorbike riders, my baby might just be one of them. If not, then it's someone else's baby and they want them home safe and sound as much as I do.

Hugs, Fi

p.s. My new job is great and it makes me believe that despite all the pain in making my decision and getting to this stage - I've done the right thing for me.

p.p.s. My new car should land on Aussie soil in four days time....yay!

  1. I'm right there with you gripping my seat! I feel the same way and my younger daughter has made noises about getting a bike but I'm ignoring it. Have a wonderful trip! New car? Yay! I love cars-enjoy : )

  2. I can understand your worries about your son riding a bike, Fiona. Although he can be trusted be careful on the streets, there are some uncertainties that riding a bike has. Anyway, there’s nothing wrong about trailing him. At least, you’re sure that he’s safe and you can even come for his aid in an instant. But I think he is a responsible rider. You just have to trust him how to deal with some common encounters on the road.
