A watched pot never boils

The watched pot will eventually boil but it takes forever, just as a watched phone takes forever to ring. Yesterday and today have been two of the longest of my life, okay maybe not the longest, but definitely the longest I can remember in a while.

Mid afternoon yesterday the call I'd been waiting for finally came. Do you know how many minutes there were between 6am when I got up yesterday morning and mid afternoon. Let me tell you there's a lot of minutes. The call was to say they were doing reference checks for the role I applied for.

Then I had an indeterminable amount of time waiting for them to call me back with an offer. I know my references are good, but nothing is sure until it's confirmed. I wanted to ring someone, tell someone - but what's to say until I have a rock solid offer.

I felt like an excited two year old the night before Christmas.

All of my research that I was doing for the book I'm currently writing just ground to a halt, my brain refused to think as I waited and waited and waited.

So on a total different tangent, a question as I wait... angel or gypsy - which would be your preferred female character in a romance novel. I've done the contemporary genre and now I want a mix of contemporary and the unexplained but I'm torn between both. There's probably a fancy genre name for it no doubt, but lets face it I can make it whatever I want it to be.

I want to write something a little bit different and by no means do I want to go the vampire or shape shifter storyline, they've both been done to death - literally. I've started writing and there's an element of magic in the storyline but I don't want to overdo it and I need to understand where it (the magic) is coming from.

 *** time lapse ***

(because honestly I didn't sit here for a hours waiting for the call to come so I could conclude this post - especially being that it didn't come till late this afternoon, because you do want to know don't you?)

So yes, I got the job - woohoo, now I just have to wait for the paperwork and the finalised details. Onward and upward to new challenges.

Cheers, Fi

and I did.....

  3. Oh, my goodness, congratulations! It's so nice to hear a happy ending: so many folks are struggling to find jobs these days. Now, about your story, I vote for the gypsy. And please have her wear a laced-up, girdle-type thing; and please have her carry a knife in it! :)

    1. Yes Kate, gypsy seems to be the unanimous response. However she might be a more contemporary version but I'm sure a knife might be necessary :-)

    1. Change Manager role Jen, so better than I hoped to get and start date of the 14th Oct, so another two weeks to just chill and relax and not have to worry about looking for a job.
